The Benefits of Lavender; Why it Makes for a Great Luxury Gift

Lavender is a flowering plant famous for its purple, fragrant flowers. It was introduced into England in the 1600s and was used as far back as the ancient Greek and Roman times. At Chilcott, we’ve been running a farm high up in the Brecon Beacons that has been growing lavender since 2013. The unique climate of the Welsh hillsides allow the lavender to flourish and produce quality flowers year after year.

Luxury Gift, Lavender Gifts, dried lavender, Lavender Oil

We’ve used our Chilcott lavender as a vital ingredient in our selection of luxury gifts and homeware for many years. We also use 100% British lambswool for our blankets and beautifully woven tweed from the isles of Harris and Lewis. We’ve strived to create a wide range of sustainable goods scented with natural fragrances.

So why lavender in particular, you might ask? To be honest, it's not the only fragrance flower we grow on our farm. We also grow rosemary for use in our rosemary & geranium botanicals. However, lavender is immensely popular, read on and you will find out why.

Lavender has a wide application of uses

Lavender is an incredibly beautiful and versatile plant, for generations it has been used in perfume, decoration, and much more. Of course, its unique smell is its most popular trait and forms the foundation for our beautiful, natural botanical collection.

Dried Lavender Has a Long Lasting Scent

Drying out the flowers allows their scent compounds to dissipate slowly over time. Dried lavender makes for perfect pot-pourri to decorate and scent your home. If poured into a bag however, you essentially have a portable diffuser that can be used to compliment a wide variety of items at home

Depending on how you store your dried lavender bags, their scent can last from months to years. The higher the ambient temperature and moisture, the faster the scent compounds will evaporate from the dried flowers. Leaving your bags in a cool, dry place is the best way to ensure they last. You can always get another bag from us to replace one that has lost its scent over the years.

Lavender as a Luxury Gift

So as you can tell, we’re passionate about lavender and what it brings to our homes. Our favourite way to use our dried lavender is to add it in a bag tied to our herringbone blankets, as well as our alpaca hot water bottles, and our Harris Tweed® kit bags. The scent from the bag settles into the fabric of these items, helping them to smell fresh and compliment the home.

If you’re a dog lover, we even use it in our luxury dog beds. We’ve found that lavender works well in keeping them fresh too! Each bed is made from sustainable Harris Tweeds® and 100% British Baavet wool to make them the perfect gift for your dog to lie on.

Our Harris Tweed® kit bags are great to hold your travel essentials with a finishing touch of a mini pocket of lavender.

Need we say more? Bring the gentle and calming scent of our lavender botanicals to your home or the home of a loved one. Chilcott’s exquisite designs and fragrances are waiting for you to turn them into the perfect luxurygift.
